kaohsiung

These days are all a blur. But anyway. I went to Kaohsiung [高雄] for two days.

I visited a church - the first Catholic Church in Taiwan.

We also had pudding!

they had cute little decorations outside =)

mmm...

We went to a lake (couldn't read the name HAHA) where the Chiang Kai-Shek had a house. This lake is also supposed to be known for its bridges; there are 9 in total I believe.

"I don't want to take a picture with you! >=O"

Finally, we went off to this Chinese Words festival [好漢玩字] Kaohsiung also has an MRT! but there aren't as many stops as there are in Taipei's.

me with a one-way ticket for the metro

Because it was the Chinese New Year time, lots of people were taking the MRT, so EVERY CAR WAS PACKED omg. It was definitely a nightmare. You didn't even have to hold on to a bar or a handle to stay standing because there were people squished all around >.<

Anyway, we went to the Chinese Words Festival. It was kind of like a museum, with different exhibits and such that has artworks that represent different words. Some were quite interesting ^^.

the word: tickets [票]

"Chinese Words are fun" [好漢玩字]

the word: door [門]

the words: words exist [有字]

made of tape measures!

forgot the word

the word: prosperity [發]

made of strings!

children silhouettes made of plywood. and the words for the 12 animals of the zodiac are also hidden inside the leafy part

a heart!

a person playing a guitar - made out of motorcycle parts

violin

and of course I need to take a picture with the cellist

cutting words out of red envelopes

a pair of towels for a happy couple. the word: double happiness [囍]

and cups for the happy couple!

clothes hangers. the word: clothes [衣]

a 3D painting =o

the clock only has half of the words sticking out. the other half is reflected on the face of the clock to complete each number. coooool~

alone, it's only "dirt" [土]

but with two people [人] sitting on it, it becomes "sit!" [坐]

adding a radical to the words on the wall create new words (they're sort of hard to see)

original word: capable [可], the new word: what [何]

"fortune comes" [福到] = turning the word upside-down [到]

teehee what a cute cook

We also saw lots of pairs and pairs of statues that were each painted differently.

lol lol lol. he even has "I heart Kaohsiung" on his shoulder

There were also lots of these painted trailers and wall paintings.

the words: 大吉大利, means big wealth and luck (something along those lines)

painted trailers

Next, we walked by the ”Love River“ [愛河]. Keke. Once it turned dark, the bridge and fence lights all came on and they were pretty pretty =]. We saw fireworks that were obstructed by trees, and little lantern tigers - HEHE so cute!

sigh... Taiwan scenery...

The coolest thing about the city was that there were these tourist bikes that you could rent out by every MRT station and they were high-tech too. There's a little light that you can charge just by riding your bike around so that you can see in front of you! And of course, the bike bell! I had so much fun ringing it =D =D. My tush hurt the next day though because of all that biking though - I'm weaksauce that can't even properly ride a bicycle--SIGH. Still fun though! =P

I have no comment

on the way, we saw a cute little dog sitting with statue...that's smoking a cigarette..

whooo lights.

the bridge changed colors too

I stayed at an apartment that was located in a newish building, and it's like, AMAZING. The doors have automatic locks, and the light switches are so cool and and and the beds are soft and and there's a balcony that's amazing and there are park right by the building and basically it's AMAZING. Did I mention AMAZING? You can ask Di about my opinion of that apartment. I would love to live in that kind of place. Ting took us to a burger place (I forgot the name!) and like all fast food restaurants in Taiwan, they have Taiwanesey snacks that you can order as sides =P like O-a-mi-sua (can't really describe it… it's like thick soup with thin noodles in them), and corn soup [玉米湯] and more!

After getting back to Taipei, I met up with CW for a bit - we had dinner with her mom too! They said Taiwan food is better than Hong Kong food =D

Hsinchu tomorrow!
